Boy Meets Girl – A Dream Come True
If you are not familiar with Boy Meets Girl or Stacy Igel…you will be very soon!
From New York Fashion Week, Gossip Girl debut, Seventeen Magazine, Lucky Magazine and the likings of many celebrities. . . this brand is not just some clothing line, it is the creme de la creme of clothing lines that keep it simple yet chic all in one. . . From the trendy to the unique, Stacy Igel has taken all her love of designing for this line. . . which goes viral TODAY on the website www.boymeetsgirlusa.com
So with all the buzz and press that adore Stacy, I knew I had to get all the info and everything on Stacy Igel and Boy Meets Girl. . . thankfully she was able to take time out to chat with me about all things buzz worthy and she even gives all you readers the best surprise ever . . .so read and find out what Stacy has in store for YOU!
I must admit. . . I have had the opportunity to interview many successful people in the industry and this one takes the cake. . . here’s why. . . she said in one of the answers and I quote “dream come true.” I have never felt so inspired by an individual in my entire life and she has the proof to put forward. . . so as much I as I enjoyed ever second of this interview I hope you will too!
Queen Buzz: As a fashionista yourself, did you adore Barbie when you were young? Fashion shows had to be a part of this adventure, right?
Stacy Igel: Oh yes, played with many Barbies and collect some too!
Queen Buzz: So when did this fashion drive come about?
Stacy Igel: Well, I told my Mom at the age of 4 that I would only wear dresses to nursery schol…I dressed my pre-k classmates and staged fashion shows from my school cafeteria. My mom was an entrepreneur and I definitely inherited that from her — it’s in my blood.
Queen Buzz: So it seems that this fashion inspiration started at an early age! What was the inspiration that brought you to Boy Meets Girl?
Stacy Igel: The first time I met my husband’s parents was for dinner at their apartment. While they were giving me the tour, I noticed a picture frame containing silhouettes of their three children from when they were younger. My parents had a similar picture of my sister and I from when we were about the same age. I thought about us and how we still both had these young, playful, carefree versions of ourselves inside of us and I knew right then and there my brand would be called Boy Meets Girl ® and that I’d use our silhouettes for the logo.
Queen Buzz: So this is where the logo design came into play. . .
Stacy Igel: The logo driven product came first and we have been growing the collection organically from there. Boy Meets Girl® is edgy yet wearable, fun and flirty yet casually classic. Boy Meets Girl® is a collection of contemporary tops, dresses, tracksuits, jumpers, pants, skirts, outerwear and accessories that appeal to a confident, playful kind of girl. . . the kind of girl who likes to laugh and doesn’t take herself too seriously.
Queen Buzz: I always ask every person I interview what their favorite color is?
Stacy Igel: Purple
you can check a recent blog I wrote about my favorite color here http://stacyigel.blogspot.com/2011/05/color-of-good-judgment.html
Queen Buzz: I always wanted to know what does it feel like when you not only hear you are going to debut your clothes at fashion week, but then seeing your designs walk down the runway and finally have a crowd applaud you for all your hard work and talent
Stacy Igel: 3 words – DREAM COME TRUE
Queen Buzz: With so many accomplishments thus far and being a fabulous Youtube (just a note also a webseries on Lockerz.com) superstar and finally the launch of your website. . . where do you see Boy Meets Girl® next?
Stacy Igel: I am launching my new revamped website on May 23rd! I’d like our website’s e-commerce platform to become one of the most sophisticated yet user-friendly direct sales platforms in fashion. Of course, retail is crucial to our success and we want to continue to have a strong presence in key boutiques and department stores. That said, I think we would be doing the brand a disservice if we didn’t take advantage of our own web-site’s capabilities internally.
Queen Buzz: So how would Stacy Igel describe her style in three words, because I know the many positive and amazing words I have for you would not fit on this page. . .
Stacy Igel: I like to think it’s eclectic, edgy, and demure all rolled into one neat little package.
Queen Buzz: And because this is my favorite part. . . What advice do you give to those wanting to walk in the heels of Stacy Igel! (This really is priceless)
Stacy Igel:
1. Be prepared to work like you’ve never worked before.
2. Being a talented designer is not enough. You need to learn how to be an effective marketer, networker, salesperson, service provider, writer, stylist, merchandiser and psychiatrist too.
3. Work with multiple vendors and never stop potential new ones. It gives you leverage and protects you from catastrophes.
4. Last, but not least…BELIEVE!
I quickly learned the importance of hard work and customer service. There are a lot of amazingly talented people in this world. While you may not always be the most creative, charming or brilliant person in the room, you can be the hardest working and most dedicated — that is something that is totally within your own control. By working hard, my bosses took notice at my earlier jobs and my employees take notice now. Its leadership by example and I think it fosters loyalty and camaraderie.
(Also I got this from a fortune cookie tonight and it fits in so well here: “Good judgement comes from experience. Experience comes from bad judgement.”)
I really am at a lost for words. . . I have never had someone tell me their adventure and make it the best ride in the park as to where I am on line again and can’t wait to experience the ride again!
And to make you all enjoy the ride. . . Stacy Igel has teamed up with myself to give you the Boy Meets Girl® website launch CONTEST!!!
