With Icons like Grace Kelly, Audrey Hepburn, and Marilyn Monroe sophistication was at its best in the 50′s. It was all about hourglass figures, fuller skirts, softer curls, classic coats, and cat eye sunglasses. That decade stood out in the history of fashion due to its structured lines and minimalistic approach. We see the impact the 50′s had in the trends of the clothes we wear today. The celebs with that very retro look today are Christina Aguilera, Scarlett Johansson, and most recently Katy Perry. Spring and summer collections on the runway show 50′s inspired fashion is back in a big way. One of my favorite stores, H&M, have many pieces inspired by this time. You will see many knee length cocktail dresses, pleated skirts, and the infamous cardigan. Being highlighted in the blog this week is peplum dresses, cat eye sunglasses, and retro shoes.
Peplum Dresses – Let’s move past the ruffles and on to a dress with extra flair. The peplum may scream retro, but it keeps up with modern day. It came back around a few years ago but seems to be everywhere this season. That short overskirt adds just the touch of glamour to stay true to that 50′s look.
Cat Eye Sunglasses – These are so worth a try because they come in so many different styles that will compliment different face shapes. Cat eye sunglasses are your must have to be on trend and make a strong statement.
Retro Shoes – Vintage inspired shoes are all the rage right now. Whether flats, pumps, or wedges, the pin up style is showing up once again this season. Pretty enough for the office and sexy enough for a night out on the town, there is no doubt that a trademark for the 50′s was the stiletto. My absolute favorite spin on the 50′s modern day look is the animal print peep toe with adorable bonus bow.
50′s inspired Shopping :
I truly believe these retro trends are easy to pull off and absolutely worth recreating.

I have a pair of Steve Madden shoes exactly like that. I’ve had them for about 4 years or so and I get co many compliments every time I wear them.
The red just pops on these shoes, and adds such a nice touch! Thanks Melissa
